Caden Schwenker attained the rank of Eagle Scout on Jan. 24. 

Schwenker, a member of Troop 3 since 2017, is a senior at Burlington Notre Dame High School where he is a member of the National Honor Society and plays multiple varsity sports.

“Caden is a very well-rounded young man. He chose and executed a fantastic project as the capstone to his scouting journey,” said Dan Fell, Troop 3’s Charter Organization Representative.

“He is the 120th Eagle Scout from Troop 3, and our first of 2024. We are proud of him,” said Scoutmaster Don Schier. 

For his Eagle Scout project, Schwenker refurbished two storage buildings used by the Burlington Notre Dame Boys baseball team. 

This involved extensive clean up around the buildings, as well as re-siding and repainting them. 

Schwenker led a crew of 10 people that performed a total of 53 hours of labor to accomplish his project.

Several local businesses made donations to make the project possible, including Standard of Beaverdale, Niles Siding, and Diamond Vogel. 

Nationally, less than 6 percent of scouts attain the Eagle rank.  

Each Eagle Scout candidate must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community or church related service project to earn his Eagle. 

Troop 3 is Iowa’s Oldest Boy Scout Troop. Founded in 1916 at St. John’s Catholic Church, they have been continuously chartered since 1917. 

In 2022, American Legion Post 52 of Burlington, became Troop 3’s chartered organization
