State wrestling: Notre Dame wrestlers earn medals in consolation finals

Notre Dame-West Burlington/Danville senior Carter West (top) finished third in Class 2A at 113 pounds at the state wrestling tournament on Saturday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

DES MOINES — Notre Dame-West Burlington/Danville senior Carter West ended one of the best careers in program history with a third-place finish at 113 in Class 2A.
West beat Jayson Stevens of Hampton-Dumont 6-0 in the consolation semifinals, then edged Jon Gonzalez of West Marshall 2-0 for third place.
West, a state runner-up the previous two years, ends his illustrious career with a 170-13 record.
Teammate C.J. Davis finished his junior year with a fourth-place finish at 126. He beat Amare Chavez of South Tama County 8-2 in the consolation semifinals before dropping a 3-0 decision to Landen Davis of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in the third-place match.
Both of C.J. Davis’ losses in the tournament were against Landen Davis.
C.J. Davis ended the season with a 48-3 record.
ND-WB/Danville junior Dirk Boyles finished eighth at 150, losing 8-3 in sudden victory to Nile Sinn of Williamsburg in the seventh-place bout.
Boyles ends the year with a 40-9 record.
