Robert Mansheim Obituary

Robert William Mansheim, 93, of Burlington, died Friday, February 14, 2025, at his home in Burlington.

Born February 12, 1932, in Fort Madison, IA, he was the son of Aaron B. and Marie O. Buechel Mansheim. In October of 1955 he married Darlene Schmitz at St. Mary's Catholic Church in String Prairie, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 8, 1966. On June 14, 1969, he married Mary Diane Wilson (Hallman) at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Burlington, Iowa. 

Bob attended Catholic Central High School. Following high school, he attended SCC and Iowa State University in 1953, working toward a degree in Civil and Mechanical Engineering before being drafted.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Anti Aircraft Division in Germany as part of the occupational forces from August 21, 1953 until June 8, 1955.

Bob worked for Murray Iron Works for 42 years until his retirement in 1998.

Bob was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus where he also served as a Black Knight. Bob was a very dedicated volunteer, giving generously of his time and talents to many organizations throughout his life. These included volunteering for 17 years at St. Vincent de Paul food pantry, serving on the parish council and Notre Dame school board, and was the first treasurer of the Notre Dame Music Boosters. He was a member of the Eagles Club. In his free time, he enjoyed competing with his bowling league, playing cards with Couples Bridge Club, camping with family and friends, and vacations to Corpus Christi and Padre Island.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Mansheim of Burlington; three sons, Robert Mansheim, Jr. and Joe Mansheim both of Ft. Madison, and Edward (Amanda) Mansheim of Burlington; three daughters, Julie Cook of Omaha, NE, Heidi (Tim) Hallman-Brown of Burlington, and Amanda (Rodney) Brent of Gladstone, IL; son-in-law, Charles Burm of Burlington; two brothers, David (Faye) Mansheim of Parkersburg, IA, and Dr. Gary (Ruth) Mansheim of Burlington; sisters-in-law, Liz, Maggie, Missy, Sarah, and Bunny; nineteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren plus two on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Curtis Hallman and Matthew Hallman; one daughter, Johannah Hallman; one sister, Jean Rickelman; one brother, Tom Mansheim; and one daughter-in-law, Kimberlee Mansheim.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary will be recited at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, Burlington. Following the rosary, military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following military honors until 7:00 PM. 

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Mansheim will be 10:30 AM Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant.  A time of food and fellowship will be held in the St. John's cafeteria following the mass. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.  

Memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice, Burlington Notre Dame Foundation - Teacher's Fund, Divine Mercy Parish, and Birthright.
