Annette Pollpeter Obituary

Annette Mildred Pollpeter, 85, died Friday, February 14, 2025, at her home in Burlington, Iowa.

Born April 10, 1939, in Fort Madison, Iowa, she was the daughter of Herbert Herman and Rose Catherine Schroeder Stenger. On June 17, 1961, she married Elmer Joseph Pollpeter in Sacred Heart Church in Fort Madison. 

Annette was a homemaker and volunteered many hours to special causes that were important to her. She was a 1956 graduate of Aquinas High School in Fort Madison.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She had been active with Altar & Rosary Society, The Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, and the Legion of Mary Council and Curia (past president). She was a KCDM LPFM (98.3) past secretary and board member and was instrumental in bringing the Catholic radio station to Burlington. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years when her daughters were young, and she volunteered for the Burlington Area Catholic Schools, God’s Portion Day, St. Vincent de Paul Pantry, Birthright, and the Des Moines County Extension Office.

Annette was known for her devotion to her Catholic faith and her family, her beautiful garden and flowers, her cooking (especially her bread, pies, and pickles), and her crafts and sewing. She enjoyed arts and culture, and she especially loved to sing and play games with family. 

Survivors include one son, Nathan (Darja) Pollpeter of Amsterdam, Netherlands; four daughters, Cindy (Randy) Gunter of New Glarus, WI, Joan (Tony) Stewart of Naples, FL, Rosalie (Steve) Pappas of Greenwood, IN, and Greta Mansour of Brooklyn, NY; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Karen Brzostoski, one brother, Edward Stenger, and five sisters, Genevieve Stenger, Marjorie Denning, Eileen Denning, Helen Sutcliffe, and Carolynn McManis.

The Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary will be recited at 3:00 PM, Friday, February 21, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, Burlington. Following the rosary, the family will receive friends until 7:00 PM.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Pollpeter will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 22, 2025, at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington with Fr. Dominic Nguyen, Rev. Father Michael T. Phillips as the Celebrants. Music will be provided by Annette’s daughter Joan, violinist; her son Nathan, soloist; her grandson Aaron, violist; and family friend Amanda Brent, soloist. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at SS. Mary and Patrick Church Hall following the burial. 

Memorials have been established for KCDM Catholic Radio and Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice.

The family would like to thank Annette’s wonderful neighbors, and friends from her church community, who helped her throughout the past year of her illness. They would also like to express their gratitude for the in-home hospice team and also the oxygen staff at First Medical Equipment.
