After watching his older brother, Notre Dame High School senior Kaiden Dietzenbach, win a state wrestling championship back in February, the younger Dietzenbach had his own moment of glory Tuesday afternoon at Flint Hills Municipal Golf Course.
Kohen Dietzenbach, a freshman at Notre Dame, beat his older brother to the punch this time, carding a hole in one during the Nikes’ SEI Super Conference dual against Holy Trinity.
Dietzenbach aced the par-3, 180-yard 15th hole using an 8-iron.
Ironically, the Dietzenbach brothers tied, each with a 48. Holy Trinity edged the Nikes, 179-184.
It was the thrill of a lifetime for Kohen Dietzenbach, one which made his brother proud.
“It was crazy. I didn’t know what to do,” Kohen Dietzenbach said. “The other guys in my group were just as shocked as me. They were pretty stoked, as well.”
With a stiff breeze at his back, Kohen Dietzenbach stood on the tee at No. 15 and took dead aim at the flag, which was tucked on the front right corner of the green.
“The wind was to our backs, so I clubbed down one,” said Dietzenbach, who has only been golfing two years. “My ball went right of the pin and landed on the fringe. It took a big bounce and rolled right into the hole.”
The shot was witnessed by his three playing partners, along with ND-WB coach John Neill and Holy Trinity coach John Goetz.
Dietzenbach said he was still feeling the after effects on the next hole.
“I was shaking quite a big when I got on the tee on the next hole,” he said. “Its fun to be out here with people who care and want to win. It’s a lot of fun.”
