Burlington Notre Dame's varsity volleyball team is another notch up the state rankings ladder as the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has the Nikes rated No. 6 in Class 1A Thursday. They started the season at No. 8 and moved up to 7 last week.
New London went from unranked to No. 15 and is now No. 10.
On Thursday night at Charles Lorber Gymnasium, Notre Dame defeated New London 32-30, 16-23, 25-20, 25-23.
West Burlington High School's squad is still No. 4 in Class 2A.
Gabby Deery and Maddy Mosena for Notre Dame are tops in Class 1A in their specialties. Deery leads with 186 kills, 43 more than her nearest competitor. She leads in kill attempts with 396. Mosena has 311 assists, 21 more than the next girl.
Abby Korschgen is No. 2 in kill efficiency at .406, with Deery fourth at .356. Deery and Korschgen are tied for eighth in blocks with 23 each.
Also for the Nikes, Taryn Stephens is fourth in the state in digs with 133. Madalynn Knapp is fourth in ace serves with 29.
For West Burlington in Class 2A, Abby Bence is No. 11 in assists with 206.
